BBC Radio 6:
No.3 - Top Listener Voted Songs (from 2002 to 2012)

NME Best 100_2000s (2012):
No.57 - The rise of Manchester five-piece Elbow from relative unknowns into one of the biggest bands in the UK may have been a long time coming, but it was worth the wait. Sourcing them a whole new generation of fans, as well as landing them with a Mercury Music Prize for ‘The Seldom Seen Kid’, ‘One Day Like This’, with its choral chanting and orchestral extravagance, proved so uplifting and inspiring that it’s hardly surprising it’s been used to soundtrack a million sporting TV montages - or that it nabbed them an Ivor Novello for best song in 2009.

NME - Top 150 from 1996 to 2011:
No.41 - OK, it’s possible this song might have been overplayed just a touch. Elbow’s stirring, carpe diem ode to long-term love has been used to inject gravitas into everything from the Beijing Olympics to the British Parking Awards (probably). But it’d take a heart of flint not to be moved by Guy Garvey’s tender and truthful observational eye (“Shaking off a heavy one”). /// Plus, the song is part of a broader heartwarming narrative: it made Elbow massive, after years of semi-obscurity. So what if it’s the soundtrack every other wedded couple’s cheesy first dance? It still rules.
